Watch Commanders for the Horry County Police Department occupy the rank of Lieutenant and serve a vital role within the operational aspects of the department. There are two types of Watch Commanders, Operational and Administrative.
Operational Watch Commanders are tasked with supervising various personnel depending on what shift is on duty, and effectively act to handle after-hours situations that typically fall upon Command Staff. The Administrative Watch Commander works primarily during normal business hours (excluding weekends and holidays) and attends to the enormous responsibility of addressing countless administrative functions that accompany a department of this size. The Administrative Watch Commander also acts as the liaison between the Horry County Police Department and other departments and agencies.
Desk Officers are generally the first point of contact for service calls that do not require a patrol officer to respond to an incident location. They operate on alternating shifts which enable them to be available to take calls during anticipated peak hours of activity.
