The Horry County Police Department is currently not taking job applications

The Horry County Police Department frequently advertises for positions, especially for the position of Patrol Officer. Applications will only be accepted when vacancies are posted by the Horry County Human Resources office. Advertisements for all county positions can be checked by clicking on the Horry County Government logo below. Applications are only accepted online.

Qualified candidates may be eligible for an adjusted entry level salary based upon past experience and professional certification(s). The terms of this adjustment will be made known to candidate upon an offer of conditional employment. The application process for this department is as follows:
- Application submission
- Background investigation for criminal history and credit history
- Written examination
- Physical agility test
- Personal and professional references checks
- Oral interview
- Conditional offers of employment
- Human Resource Department screening (drug screening, employee physical, and orientation)
- Attendance and successful completion of the 9-week course at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) in Columbia, S.C.
- Successful completion of a Field Training Officer program. This program typically involves a new officer riding with a supervisor for 8 weeks and successfully demonstrating proficiency to include passing a written examination.
The SCCJA may waive the full 9 weeks of the academy for those officers who are already certified in another state. Academy requirements and curriculum can be found at the academy’s web site: http://www.sccja.org/
