After moving to Horry County, he was self-employed until joining the Horry County Police Department on February 1, 1973.

During Ronald’s career he was constantly attending schools and various seminars to improve his career.  Among his achievements were:  The Drug Enforcement Administration, Homicide, Detective and Investigation, Crime Scene Management, Firearms and Explosives, Forensic Pathology, Management Seminar, Street Survival, Defensive Driving, Criminal Justice, Horry Georgetown Tech Criminal Justice, FBI Management, South Carolina Law Enforcement, and Permit to perform Breathalyzer Alcohol Test.

Officer Floyd was a dedicated employee with great leadership qualities.  He always gave more than was expected enabling him to be promoted to Corporal. Sergeant, and then Lieutenant in November 1984.  Lieutenant Floyd was the first Officer of the Horry County Police Department to die in the line of duty, responding to a late night prowler call.

Ronald is survived by his wife and two children.  He was active in the Loris Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Green Sea Baptist Church. His smile and friendly manner is missed by all fellow officers and the people he served.
