Henry Odell Stalvey, Jr. was born September 9, 1948 to Henry Odell Stalvey, Sr. and Cecil Chestnut Stalvey. Henry was raised in the Red Bluff Community and was a farmer before beginning his career in Law Enforcement with the Horry County Police Department on May 2, 1977.
During Henry’s career, he prepared himself to be the best police officer he could be by completing numerous schools in the law enforcement field. Such schools included the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, Breath Examiner Specialist Certification, Crime Scene Management, Interviewing, Public Relations, Pathology, and First Line Supervision.
Officer Stalvey was promoted to Corporal on March 7, 1984, and later promoted to Sergeant on November 14, 1984. Henry received the Horry County Police Officer of the Year Award in December 1984. This award is given for outstanding performance of duties throughout the year. Whether on or off duty, Henry was always prepared to assist a fellow officer at anytime. Henry was enroute to assist a fellow officer at the time of his death.
Henry is survived by five sons. His devotion to duty and sincere concern won him respect from all whom he came in contact with. He leaves behind fellow police officers with empty hearts and a stronger resolve to be the type of police officer that Henry envisioned for himself and others. We shall not forget Henry and what he meant to all of us.
