The Technology Unit is comprised of one Lieutenant and two officers.
The Technology Unit is responsible for developing, acquiring, and maintaining new technologies to assist Horry County Police officers in the discharge of their duties. The Technology Unit is currently working on the deployment of our Mobile Data System, which will allow officers to check Department of Motor Vehicle records as well as the National Crime Database from their cars. This will increase officer safety as well as efficiency in regards to being able to obtain information in a more timely fashion. The new system will also give officers access to the Police Department’s Record Management System also referred to as RMS. This will allow officers to pull information on persons whom other officers may have encountered on previous occasions to assist in solving crimes.
The Technology Unit is also looking at the deployment of a new automated ticket system, which would allow the officer to generate tickets from his or her computer instead of having to write them. This will shorten the time officers are out on traffic stops allowing them to give a citation quickly and get back on patrol. This system will also allow for more efficient tracking of tickets as far as officers in the car having access to see what tickets a person has been issued in the past as well as if it was a warning ticket or not.
All of the Technologies that the Technology Unit are currently working on and have already provided for the Horry County Police Department are intended to allow the Officers who serve Horry County to provide the best possible service to all of her citizens.

Cpl. Hucks maintains the Police Department's Radios with his mobile radio programming unit, allowing him to travel to the officers who need their radio reprogrammed, fixed, or replaced.
